Rifle Team Opens with a loss against Kentucky Buckeye

 

Ryan Kohatsu is OSU's top shooter

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Rifle team opened the season with a 4,638-4,507 loss against Kentucky Sunday. The Wildcats posted team totals of 2,318 in smallbore and 2,320 in air rifle, while the Buckeyes recorded a 2,272 in smallbore and a 2,235 in air rifle. Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) was the top shooter for Ohio State, finishing second in the meet, recording a 1,162 aggregate with a 583 in smallbore and a 579 in air rifle. Linnea Nygren (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) posted a 1,136 aggregate for OSU with a 572 in smallbore and a 564 in air rifle. Andrew Roland for Kentucky was the top overall shooter with a 1,163 aggregate score. He had a 587 in smallbore and a 576 in air rifle.

 

Ohio State will next compete at the Boilermaker Invitational next Saturday.

Rifle Team Competes at the Boilermaker Invitational

 

Buckeye Ryan Kohatus finishes second in smallbore rifle and third in air rifle

 

Oct. 23, 2005

 

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Rifle team competed at the Boilermaker Invitational over the weekend in West Lafayette, Ind. The Buckeyes finished third overall in air rifle with a 2,249 score and were fourth in smallbore rifle with a 2,227 mark. Akron's gold team won the air rifle competition with a 2,289 and Missouri-Kansas City captured the smallbore event with a 2,257. The top finisher for Ohio State was Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) who finished second in smallbore rifle with a 567 and third in air rifle with a 581. Kilee Courter of Missouri-Kansas City won the smallbore event with a 587 while Calee Courter of Missouri-Kansas City and Marybeth Brewer of Michigan tied for the air rifle title with a mark of 583.

Buckeye Ryan Kohatsu is OSU's top scorer

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team defeated Rose Hulman, 4,512 to 4,389 in a dual meet Sunday. The Buckeyes won both the smallbore (2,266-2,195) and air (2,246-2,194) events to capture the meet. OSU's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) took first place individual honors in both smallbore (588) and air (583) rifle. Linnea Nygren (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) took second in smallbore (570) with Kelly Lake (So., Cleves, Ohio) finishing third (561). OSU's Staci Collins (Fr., Waterford, Ohio) took fifth in air (555).

Rifle Team Edges Akron in 3-Way Meet, 4,579 to 4,576

 

Buckeye Ryan Kohatus is OSU's top scorer

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team edged out Akron by three points in a three-team meet at Akron. OSU totaled 4,579 points in the contest while Akron scored 4,576. Placing third in the meet with a 4,095 score was the John Jay School of Criminal Justice. OSU's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) was the top shooter in both events posting a 587 in smallbore and a 584 in air rifle. Buckeye Linnea Nygren (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) placed second in smallbore with a 582 and tied for fifth in air rifle with a 573 score. Staci Collins (Fr., Waterford, Ohio) finished third in air rifle for Ohio State with a 576.

 

The rifle team will next compete at Morehead State Nov. 12.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State rifle defeated Morehead State, 4,533 to 4,421 Saturday. OSU's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) was the top shooter for the Buckeyes with a 580 score in smallbore rifle and a 585 mark in air rifle. Linnea Nygren (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) ranked second for Ohio State in smallbore at 566 and third in air rifle at .567. Steven Nozaki (Fr., Hilo, Hawaii) shot a 569 in air rifle for the Buckeyes with Jeff Naswadi (Fr., Copley, Ohio) receiving a 559 in smallbore rifle.

 

The Buckeyes will return to action Jan. 21 when they face the U.S. Military Academy at Palmyra, Pa.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team lost, 4,667 to 4,532 to the U.S. Military Academy in a match that was scored during the 7th Annual Palmyra Invitational in Palmyra, Pa. The Army out shot Ohio State, 2,325 to 2,263 in smallbore and 2,342 to 2,269 in air rifle. Chris Abalo took top honors with high marks of 591 in smallbore and air rifle and a two-gun aggregate of 1,182. Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) was Ohio State's top shooter finishing third in smallbore at 580 and fourth in air rifle with 581. He posted a third place finish in the two-gun aggregate standings at 1,161. Buckeye Kelly Lake (So., Cleves, Ohio) finished fifth overall with a 1,129 score. She finished fifth in smallbore at 569 and sixth (560) in air rifle.

 

The Buckeyes next shoot at the Roger Withrow Invitational, Jan. 28 at Murray State (Ky.).

Rifle Team Shoots at the Roger Withrow Invitational, Finishes 8th

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team took part in the Roger Withrow Invitational Saturday at Murray State in Kentucky, finishing eighth for the scarlet team and 13th for the gray squad. Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) shot a team-high 1,168 two-gun aggregate score with a team-high 589 in smallbore rifle to win the competition and a 579 in air rifle. Buckeye Linnea Nygren (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) had a aggregate score of 1,145 with a 564 in smallbore rifle and a team-high 581 in air rifle.

 

The Buckeyes will next go to the firing line Saturday when they host Xavier and West Virginia.

Rifle Team Defeats Xavier, falls to West Virginia

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team defeated Xavier, but lost to West Virginia at home Saturday. West Virginia posted a 4,569 score recording a 2,287 in smallbore and a 2,282 in air rifle. The Buckeyes had a 4,556 with a 2,281 in smallbore and a 2,275 in air rifle. Xavier recorded a 4,542, shooting a 2,243 in smallbore and a 2,299 in air rifle. OSU's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) took top honors in smallbore with a .586. Lafe Kunkel of West Virginia was second at .580. In air rifle, Ashley Skeuse of Xavier finished first at 587 with West Virginia's Brian Launer second at 585. OSU's Linnea Nygren (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) in air rifle took fourth with 576.

 

The Buckeyes will next host the NRA Collegiate Sectional, Feb. 10-12.

Rifle Team Ties for Third in the NRA Collegiate Sectional

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team hosted the NRA Collegiate Sectional last weekend, finishing tied for third in the meet. Akron finished first at 4,581 with Xavier second at 4,536. Ohio State and Morehead State tied for third at 4,507 and Rose-Hulman finished fifth at 4,484. OSU's Linnea Nygren (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) had the top two-gun aggregate score of 1,158 in the meet. She posted a 577 in smallbore (tied for second) and a 581 (tied for second) in air rifle. Julie DeBrita of Akron had the top smallbore rifle score of 578 and her teammate, Melissa Lussier was the top finisher in air rifle at 582.

 

Ohio State will next compete in the West Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championship, Feb. 25 at Purdue.

Rifle Team finishes third at Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championships

 

Buckeye Linnea Nygren named second-team All Conference in smallbore rifle

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team finished third overall at the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championship held at Purdue last weekend. The Buckeyes scored a combined 3,727 score, finishing behind second place Missouri-Kansas City at 3,763 and champion Akron at 3,784. OSU finished second in air rifle with a mark of 1,504, 10 behind Akron's top mark of 1,514. The Buckeyes were fourth in smallbore rifle with a 2,223 score, just two point behind third place Morehead State at 2,225. Missouri-Kansas City place second at 2,264 with Akron taking first at 2,270.

 

Ohio State's Staci Collins (Fr., Waterford, Ohio) was the top scorer in air rifle for the Buckeyes with a 383. Steven Nozaki (Fr., Hilo, Hawaii) was 10th with a 378 mark. Nozaki finished 10th in smallbore rifle with a 564 score. Linnea Nygren (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) was 13th at 562. Nygren was honored at the meet by being named to the second team WIRC All-Conference smallbore team.
