Rifle Falls to Kentucky, 4,627 to 4,423

 

Ryan Kohatsu tops smallbore rifle, ties for third in air rifle Ryan Kohatsu was OSU's top shooter in the loss at Kentucky.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team opened the 2004-05 season with a 4,627 to 4,423 loss at Kentucky Saturday. Buckeye Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) was OSU's top shooter, taking first in smallbore rifle (588), tying for third in air rifle (583) and winning the two-gun aggregate with a 1,171 mark. Kentucky's Vicki Goss and Ray Geyer tied for first in air rifle with a 587 score. Ohio State's Linnea Nygren (Jr., Hayward, Calif.) finished fifth in smallbore rifle (573) and was fifth in the two-gun aggregate with a 1,132 score (air rifle 559).

 

Ohio State will next travel to Purdue University for the Boilermaker Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 30.

OSU's Ryan Kohatsu is the Top Shooter at Boilermaker Invitational

 

Kohatsu takes first in air and smallbore rifle

 

Nov. 2, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) took top honors in both air and smallbore rifle at the Boilermaker Invitational. Kohatsu shot a 390 in air rifle and 1,165 in smallbore rifle. Chris Baizek of Wisconsin-Oshkosh finished second in air rifle at 388 while Angie Engle of Akron took second in smallbore rifle at 1,160. Ohio State's Linnea Nygren (Jr., Hayward, Calif.) finished sixth in both events with a 380 in air rifle and a 1,150 in smallbore rifle.

 

Ohio State will host the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Converse Hall.

Ryan Kohatsu finishes first in smallbore and air rifle

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team dropped a 4,496 to 4,467 decision to Rose Hulman Sunday in Converse Hall. The Buckeyes were edged in air rifle competition, 2,237 to 2,231 and lost smallbore, 2,259 to 2,236. Individually, Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) swept the individual honors shooting a 590 in air rifle and 592 in smallbore rifle and finishing first in the two-gun aggregate with a 1,182 score. OSU's Linnea Nygren (Jr., Hayward, Calif.) finished fourth in both shooting events, 562 in air and 568 in smallbore and took third in two-gun aggregate with a 1,131. Rose Hulman's Jennifer Lowe finished second in smallbore rifle with a 570 while Dan Cloutier was second in air rifle with a 571 and second in two-gun aggregate with a 1,139

 

Ohio State (7-5) will host Morehead State Sunday, Nov. 21.

Rifle Defeats Morehead State, 4,510 to 4,294

 

Ryan Kohatsu is the top shooter of the meet

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State (8-5) rifle team defeated Morehead State, 4,510 to 4,294, Sunday in Converse Hall. The Buckeyes shot 2,267 in smallbore and 2,243 in air rifle. Ohio State's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) was the top shooter of the day with a 1,171 aggregate score. He shot 589 in smallbore and 582 in air rifle, the top scores in each event. Second in the competition was Linnea Nygren (Jr., Hayward, Calif.) with a 1,137 aggregate. She had a 567 in air rifle for second place and a 570 in smallbore for third. Morehead State's Lindy Collins finished third at 1,132, taking third in air rifle (563) and fourth in smallbore (569).

 

Ohio State will next take the range Jan. 8 when they host Akron.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State (8-6) rifle team dropped a 4,523 to 4,467 decision to Akron Saturday at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Converse Hall in the final home meet of the season. The Zips won both the smallbore (2,265 to 2,233) and air rifle (2,258 to 2,234) competition. Individually OSU's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii was the top shooter in the competition scoring a 592 in smallbore and a 585 in air rifle for a meet-high 1,177 aggregate. Akron's Joe Milano ranked second in aggregate with a 1,146, finishing tied for second in air rifle (572) and third in smallbore (574). OSU's Linnea Nygren (Jr., Hayward, Calif.) was fifth in aggregate with a 1,129. She finished fourth in air rifle (563) and fifth in smallbore (566).

 

The Buckeyes will travel to West Virginia to face the U.S. Military Academy Saturday, Jan. 22 and then face host West Virgina Sunday, Jan. 23.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Rifle team fell to Army, 6,218 to 5,925 in a meet held at Palmyra, Pa. OSU's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) was the top shooter for the Buckeyes finishing second with a 1,554 aggregate. He had a 1,161 in smallbore and a 393 in air rifle. Army's Chris Abalo was the top overall shooter with a 1,562 aggregate. He recorded a 1,174 in smallbore and a 388 in air rifle. Ohio State faces West Virginia Sunday in Morgantown.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Rifle team dropped a 4,537 to 4,499 decision at West Virgina Sunday. OSU's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) had the top scores in the match with a 583 in smallbore rifle and a 581 in air rifle. Linnea Nygren (Jr., Hayward, Calif.) posted a 562 in smallbore and a 564 in air rifle for the Buckeyes. West Virgina's Lafe Kunkel was the top shooter for the Mountaineers with a 581 in smallbore and a 578 in air rifle.

 

Ohio State returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Racer Invitational at Murray State (Ky.).

Rifle's Ryan Kohatsu Takes Top Honors at the 2005 Roger Withrow Invitational

 

Buckeyes finish ninth in the competition

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Rifle team's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) took top honors at the 2005 Roger Withrow Invitational last weekend (Jan. 28-30) shooting an 1,173 aggregate score as Ohio State finished ninth in the competition of 11 teams. Kohatus took top honors in smallbore with a score of 591 and finished 10th in air rifle with 582. Beth Tidmore of Memphis won the air rifle competition with a 593. Ohio State posted a 2,219 in smallbore for ninth place and a 2,225 in air rifle for 10th. Kentucky-Blue won the invitational with a 4,618 aggregate score. They took first in smallbore with a 2,309 and was fourth in air rifle with a 2,309. Memphis won in air rifle with a 2,333.

 

Ohio State will next compete at Xavier, Friday, Feb. 5.

Buckeye Ryan Kohatsu finishes second in aggregate

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Rifle team fell to Xavier, 4,637 to 4,495 in Cincinnati Saturday. Xavier won both events, with a 2,333 to 2,241 margin in smallbore rifle and a 2,304 to 2,254 advantage in air rifle. OSU's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) finished second overall with a 1,162 aggregate score. He was tied for second in air rifle at 582 and was third in smallbore rifle at 580. Xavier's Hannah Kerr took first in aggregate with a 1,174 mark. She was first in smallbore rifle with 592 and tied for second in air rifle at 582. Xavier's Brian Watson took top honors in air rifle with a 584 score.

 

The Buckeyes return to Xavier next Saturday and Sunday for the NCAA Qualifier.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) finished first in air rifle at 584 and second in smallbore rifle at 586 in the NCAA Qualifier held last weekend at Xavier University. Kohatsu edged out Xavier's Hannah Kerr (582) in air rifle while Kerr took top honors in smallbore rifle with a 591 score. OSU's Linnea Nygren (Jr., Hayward, Calif.) finished eighth in smallbore rifle at 572. Xavier won the team competition with a 4,646 aggregate with Ohio State finishing fourth at 4,502. The NCAA Championship will be held March 10-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Ohio State will next compete at the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference championships, March 26, hosted by Purdue University.

Rifle Team's Finishes Third in both Air and Smallbore Rifle at the WIRC Championships

 

Buckeye Ryan Kohatsu is named First Team All-Conference in both air and smallbore rifle

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State's Ryan Kohatsu (Sr., Hilo, Hawaii) received first-team All-Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference honors in both smallbore and air rifle at the WIRC championships last weekend at Purdue. OSU's Linnea Nygren (Jr., Hayward, Calif.) was named to the second team for smallbore rifle. As a team, Ohio State finished third in both smallbore (2,245) and air rifle (1,490) at the championships. Missouri-Kansas City took top honors in both events, shooting a 2,300 in smallbore and a 1,532 in air rifle.
