COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle squad opened the 2003-04 season with a 6,195 to 6,034 home loss to Kentucky at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Converse Hall. Kentucky won both events, winning air rifle, 1,543 to 1,495 and smallbore rifle, 4,652 to 4,539. Wildcat Bradley Wheeldon took top honors in air rifle at 394 with OSU's Abhijeet Konduskar (Sr., Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India) taking second at 384. In smallbore rifle, Wheeldon and Konduskar shot identical scores of 1,173. Wheeldon was declared the winner with the first tie breaker using standing scores, 384-382.
Team air rifle scores for the Buckeyes included Linnea Nugren (So., Hayward, Calif.) with 370, Jessica Sears (Sr., Nevada City, Calif.) with 381 and Andrew Wesel (Fr., Warren, Ohio) with 360. Smallbore rifle scores included Nygren at 1,128, Sears at 1,122 and Wesel at 1,116.
Ohio State next competes at the Boilermaker Invitational on Oct. 18.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle squad finished second at the Boilermaker Invitational open at Purdue University Saturday. The Buckeyes shot an aggregate of 5,972, second only to Missouri-Kansas City winning score of 6,012. OSU posted the top air rifle score of 1,487 and had second best smallbore score of 4,485. Missouri-Kansas City took top honors in smallbore with a 4,545. OSU's Abhijeet Konduskar (Sr., Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India) took top individual honors with a 382 in air rifle and a 1,156 in smallbore rifle. Missouri-Kansas City Calee Courter finished second in both events, shooting a 378 in air rifle and a 1,150 in smallbore rifle.
Buckeye Jessica Sears (Sr., Nevada City, Calif.) finished tied for fifth in air rifle at 371. Linnea Nygren (So., Hayward, Calif.) posted the second best smallbore rifle score for the Buckeyes with a 1,121.
Ohio State will compete next Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team came away with a 5,973-5,370 victory at the Virginia Military Institute Saturday in Lexington, Va. The Buckeyes won both events, outscoring the Keydets 1,478 in air rifle and 4,495-4095 in smallbore rifle. Ohio State's Abhijeet Konduskar (Sr., Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India) took top individual honors in both events shooting a 390 in air rifle and a 1,155 in smallbore rifle for a match-high 1,545 aggregate score. Buckeye Jessica Sears (sr., Nevada City, Calif.) took second in air rifle (382) and in aggregate (1,495). Andrew Wesel (Fr., Marietta, Ohio) finished second in smallbore rifle (1,119) and was third in aggregate (1,477).

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle suffered a 6,036-5,911 loss at Rose-Hulman Saturday. The Buckeyes dropped both events, losing 1,506-1,485 in air rifle and 4,530-4,426 in smallbore rilfe. Ohio State Abhijeet Konduskar (Sr., Kolhapur, Marhasashtra, India) won both individual events. He shot a 392 in air rifle and a 1,157 in smallbore. Konduskar had the top aggregate of 1,549 in the match. OSU's Linnea Nygren (So., Hayward, Calif.) took third in air rifle (379) and finished third in the aggregate scoring at 1,509.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team dropped a 6,152 to 6,035 decision to Nebraska Sunday in Converse Hall. The Cornhuskers won both events in the match, winning air rifle, 1,551 to 1,490 and smallbore rifle, 4,601 to 4,545. Ohio State's Abhijeet Konduskar (Sr., Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India) took top individual honors in smallbore rifle with a 1,178 score. Nebraska's Kristina Fehlings won the air rifle event with a 393 mark. Konduskar took top overall honors with a 1,562 aggregate score.
Also shooting for team points for Ohio State was Linnea Nygren (So., Hayward Calif.) with a 376 air and 1,140 smallbore marks. Jessica Sears (Sr., Nevada City, Calif.) shot 369 for air and 1,124 for smallbore while Andrew Wesel (Fr., Marietta, Ohio) recorded a 361 in air and 1,103 in smallbore.
Ohio State returns to action at Akron on Jan. 10.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team suffered a 3,788-3,709 loss at Akron Saturday. The Buckeyes had to deal with building construction and a disabled heating system (50 degrees), which resulted in only half of the smallbore round taking place. Akron won both events shooting a 2,261 in smallbore to OSU's 2,242 and the Zips shot 1,537 in air rifle to 1,467 for the Buckeyes. OSU's Linnea Nygren (So. Hayward, Calif.) captured the individual smallbore title with a 575 score.
Akron's Sarah Kramer was second in smallbore at 573 with Zip Joe Milan third at 571. In air rifle, Zips Kramer and Angie Engle tied for first with a 387 score. OSU's Jessica Sears (Sr., Nevada City, Calif.) took third with a season-high 381.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle squad lost a 6,050-5,938 decision at home Saturday to West Virginia. The Mountaineers took top honors in both events, winning air rifle, 1,544 to 1,490 and smallbore rifle, 4,517 to 4,448. OSU's Linnea Nygren (So., Hayward, Calif.) finished second in smallbore rifle with a 1,129 score. She was fourth in aggregate score with a 1,503 mark. Nygren took fifth in air rifle with a 374 score, taking the place, 13-12 in X's over teammate Jessica Sears (Sr., Nevada City, Calif.)
West Virginia's Brian Launer won the air rifle competition with a 391 mark. Teammate Nicole Allire took top honors in smallbore rifle with a 1,169 and recorded the top aggregate score of 1,559.
Ohio State will next compete, Jan. 31, in the Roger Withrow Invitational in Murray, Ky.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle squad shot a 5,948 aggregate score to finish ninth at the 2004 Roger Withrow Invitational in Murray, Kent. The Buckeyes finished eighth in smallbore rifle at 4,463 and ninth in air rifle at 1,485. Host Murray State won both events scoring a 1,559 in air rifle and a 4,636 in smallbore rifle. Top aggregate shooter for Ohio State was Linnea Nygren (So., Hayward, Calif.) with a 1,501 (371 air rifle and 1,130 smallbore rifle). Buckeye Andrew Wesel (Fr., Marietta, Ohio) ranked second for OSU with a 1,498 aggregate (378 air rifle and 1,120 smallbore rifle). All three scores for Wesel were season highs.

OSU's Linnea Nygren (So., Hayward, Calif.) was the top performer for the Buckeyes, shooting a 386 in air rifle and a 1,134 in smallbore rifle. Xavier's Hannah Kerr took both individual titles scoring a 390 in air rifle and a 1,153 in smallbore, tying with teammate Rich Gauvin.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle squad finished fifth in the area NCAA Qualifier/NRA Sectional held at Xavier University. The Buckeyes shot a-team aggregate of 5,960 in the event, recording 1,479 in air rifle and 4,481 in smallbore rifle. The top scoring team of the event was Xavier with a 6,204 mark. Top individuals for Ohio State included Bryan Toth (Fr., Stratford, Conn.), finishing ninth in air rifle with a 380 score. Linnea Nygren (So., Hayward, Calif.) finished seventh (1,155) in smallbore rifle.
Ohio State will compete next Saturday at the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championship in West Lafayette, Ind.

Rifle Finishes Third In Both Events At The Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championships
Three student-athletes receive second team all-conference honors.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State rifle team finished third in both events at the Western Intercollegiate Rifle Conference Championships held at Purdue. The Buckeyes shot 1,496 in air rifle behind first place Missouri-Kansas City (1,499) and second place Akron (1.498). In smallbore rifle, OSU scored a 2,253 with Akron taking first (2,265) and Missouri Kansas City second (2,259).
Ohio State's Jessica Sears (Sr., Nevada City, Calif) and Linnea Nygren (So., Hayward, Calif.) were named to the WIRC second team in air rifle while Sears, Nygren and Bryan Toth (Fr., Stratford, Conn.) were second WIRC all-conference selection in smallbore rifle.
